The third chapter of 'Shuck the Sulfurstar' starts today at http://www.sulfurstar.com/comics/shuck_sulfurstar/3/cover.php . We're serializing the whole story (which will be printed as a graphic novel in 2006) online for free, one page per day.

About Shuck

Shuck is a devil, retired in a small town, trying to stay out of trouble. Disguised as the neighborhood handyman, Shuck gets in adventures with the precocious little girl Thursday Friday, untangling the town from discord he unknowingly brought with him from Hell.

Shuck the Sulfurstar Chapter 3: 'Hungry (For) Ghosts'

As he contemplates eating Thursday Friday's grandfather's soul, Shuck agonizes over succumbing to his addiction or ending the gloom embracing her. Shuck's appetite for the dead has also angered the hellish creatures who intended that ethereal morsel for their ailing morsel, the Archfiend.

'Shuck the Sulfurstar' Chapters 1 and 2 are already online - read them and catch up. 'Shuck Unmasked', the first Shuck graphic novel (published by Top Shelf in 2003) is also online in its entirety - for free. Read it, too!

If you like what you've read, take a look at our catalog, where we've got all of the books for sale through a PayPal shopping cart.

Thanks for reading.

Rick, does this change the way you're publishing them as singles? I'd rather wait and buy them through my comic shop if you're still going to publish them that way.

Hi,

Yes - like others who have made similar moves in the last few months, I, too, found printing single issues more trouble than they're worth: from distribution ennui, to wallet-crunching printing costs, to gaining readers through an antiquated system (for an independent book, that is), to the fact that the format isn't cost effective, Shuck will not see see publication in pamphlet format.

The stories will be serialized and archived on the web for free, and then will find their way to print in the form of graphic novels. The 'Shuck the Sulfurstar' graphic novel (which is now up to page 54 at http://www.sulfurstar.com) will arrive late in 2006 and run around 350 pages.

I should have learned from the sales and promotional efforts of the 'Shuck Unmasked' trade that came out in 2003 - which were more successful than the sales of the pamphlets.

Publishing in the book format will also alleviate administrative efforts, as I will only have to deal with distributors and printers once, as opposed to 12 or 13 times.

So keep reading the stories as they are posted on the web (at one page a day) and then look for the book after the story is complete.

Thanks for reading!

Looks like I'm becoming a web comics reader. :)

Definitely sign me up for the trade though.
