365 Things I Enjoyed in Comics This Year
It's that time of the year again. Even though it doesn't possibly seem like another year has passed, it has. I've already started noticing year-end summaries and top ten lists popping up around the comics landscape, and it got me thinking about the kind of year it was in comics.
When thinking about the year in comics, I get this image of negativity. Not necessarily negativity when it comes to the product, but this underlying feeling of harping and bickering among fans, and even bickering between fans, publishers, and critics. It seemed like a year of finger pointing, a year of calling each other out. Maybe it's because of boredom, or maybe it's just spite. But I like to think of it as growing pains; comics, the comics internet, the comics blogosphere, they're still growing and bumping up against each other. You've got your hard core X-Men geek rubbing into the art comics snob, and they don't always see eye to eye. You've got your self promoted deputies running around with their whistles trying to get everyone to think and act like they do; and we all know how that turns out. So, once again, the past year seemed kind of messy at times. But I don't think that's fair for the comics medium.
You'll find so much good out there in the messy, screwed up world of comics. To prove it, I offer the following list: a list of 365 things that I enjoyed in 2005 that are comics related. The list includes comics, trades, graphic novels, collections, websites, online strips, blogs, prose books, and art. There's a little bit of everything here, and it wasn't that difficult to come up with actually. (Difficult to code and load into the database maybe, but not to come up with the list) I provided links to everything that I could find a link for. Only a few ended up without a link, so I hope youll find something to your liking. Side note: not everything on the list was published in 2005, some things, like manga titles, I discovered a little late.
