PoC #4 Winner AND #5 INKING Job (UPDATED!)

Inkers get your pens ready 'cause Larry's looking at YOU now!

PROOF OF CONCEPT #5: ROCKIN’ THIS PART EIGHT DAYS A WEEK

Let’s start with the new contest for INKERS, here are INKING PAGES 1 TO 5 and INKING PAGES 6 TO 12 as TIFF files if you have any problems with them drop a note to site EIC Caleb Gerard pages 6 to 12 will be up in a day. Now, on to this time's future pros...

Boy, you guys are making it difficult for me to select the artist we’re going to publish.

Once again, Paul Tucker works his magic on a Proof of Concept script. Those of you who’ve been keeping track at home will note that Paul’s batting a thousand, and has drawn every one, so far. Nice work, Paul. I really like your signature layout design of making two distinct pages into a two page spread, like you did here on pages ten and eleven.

Brian Frey also did a frankly amazing job with his 3D set building and modelling of the ships. His wife Holly is a pretty amazing seamstress, too; check out those costumes! Unfortunately Brian couldn’t get the whole twelve pages done, even with the extra time. It’s maddening!

Anthony Wu did some work I really liked; especially the bit on page five and page six; some nice use of blacks and negative space, but some funky layout choices gave me pause.

But the guy who gets the contract this time out is Jeff Johns. His ship design and grey tones are first-rate; his bold linework around the figures is well-rendered and confident. Honestly, there’s not a thing I’d ask him to change in his story. Excellent work, Jeff; look for that contract soon.

Everyone who submitted pages: thanks for your hard work on my “For the Time Being” script this last time out.

This week, we’re going to try a little something different. Kansas City artist Steven Sanders and I did a twelve-pager called “Zombie Dinosaur” especially for you inkers to show off on. Here are 200 dpi scans of the story; print them out on Bristol board at C 15 M 0 Y 0 K 0 and ink right on that. It gives you an excellent non-repro blue for you to throw down your blacks.

OK; interested inkers: take a look at this week’s script, Zombie Dinosaur
. Those of you who couldn’t participate last time because of work and family commitments might want to take a shot at INKING PAGE 1 TO 5 and INKING PAGES 6 TO 12 as TIFF files pages 6 to 12 will be up in a day. It’s got that ol’ Lar twist in it, so give it a read and see what you think. Due date for this one is June 21st.

As always, when you finish up your work, send me a .zip file or .sit file at larry@ait-planetlar.com or email me a link to a web page that has your twelve pages posted at 72 dpi and no bigger than 6 x 9, and I’ll see you back here seventeen calendar days…
If you have any problems with the files for inking please contact Caleb Gerard and he’ll set you up ASAP.
