RabbitHead
Review by Greg White
Written and Illustrated by Rebecca Dart Alternative Comics; $4.95 RabbitHead is an over-sized book (compared to standard comic dimensions) that is something the likes I've never seen before. This is one of the most original narrative styles in the comic medium that I have ever come across. Prepare yourself for the mind-bending, spine-tingling, word-hyphenating experience that is my review for RabbitHead! RabbitHead is quite an interesting read. Well, technically, I didn't read a single word because the book itself is comprised of art only. I'm not completely sure what's going on in Rebecca Dart's mind, but whatever it is, I want in. She has written a book that takes time-management and use of narrative to a new level. Not a word is uttered in this book, but as I "looked" through it, I felt a connection to the characters, and even found myself understanding the characters' personalities as I went. The method that is used to portray the movement of time is quite original. The book literally starts as a single story, and before you know it, the story branches off into as many as eight different directions that… um… all run back into each other. The story starts and mainly revolves (literally) around the title character and her adventures. I can tell you right now, you will feel some emotions in this book. More than once, I actually felt authentic sorrow for RabbitHead and Company. It's hard to make me feel that from a book with words, let alone a pictorial story. Rebecca Dart has surely put more time in this story than most writers do in an entire multi-issue arc. She splits up each page with multiple time-overlapping situations and takes the reader on a quest of events that occur simultaneously, and all on the same page. Wow. I think my head just exploded. I hope I didn't confuse you too much! (hee hee) Yes, this is a short and sweet review, but bottom line: If you love experimental comics, then check this out if you happen upon it. If you don't like experimental comics, then get RabbitHead anyway, and it might change your mind. Whew! RabbitHead is available to purchase online at www.amazon.com.
